Y/A Word Count?

Author: Heba Jahama (---.218.252.216-static.tedata.net)

Hello again. I'm always the one with the ignorant questions, arent I?

I've got a couple regarding the standard word count for Y/A:

1) What is the minimum length of a Y/A novel?

2) If it falls below that word limit, it'll be a novella, right? But can a novella be published as a stand-alone? Or does is it have to be a series?

Thanks in advance :)

The average young adult novel is about 50,000 words, I believe. But they can range from about 40,000 words to about 90,000 words.

It's extremely hard to sell a novella, especially if you're unpublished.

Debra writes YA, so she'd be the one to know! :)

Thank you, it was an immense help--and an extreme relief--to find out that my novel wasn't too short.

Thanks again :)
