Awww! The urge to merge with others, with the hope that what is shared is found to be interesting. (Bless their little hearts.) :-)

It is easy to set up a Facebook account but hard to delete one.

That statement wasn't meant to be derogatory, by the way.
'Tis a human trait, this yearning to share our thoughts with others. Heck, we're doing it right here at Smoko. :-)
And...profundity ahead...if writers didn't have this same desire to be heard, wonderful books would never get published. It's all good!

Hmm...how many of you think a Facebook would be a good marketing tool? Obviously, I know almost nothing about it.

I have a site on Facebook and MySpace and find both to offer publicity for my books. These sites are in addition to WritersNet and AuthorsDen. If you ask me how many sales result from these sites, I cannot tell because where sales originate do not appear on my royalty statement. But what I can tell you is that creating a positive Internet presence is definitely a plus. All sorts of opportunities have resulted such as interviews (radio and print, national and international), invitations, development of writing colleagues, and mentoring and being mentored. Granted most of my work goes into WritersNet and Authorsden and the other two sites are not as well developed, but those two are there and I get visibility.

I don't just have one web site, I have two. One for each of my pen names. (I write in different genres) And yes, they're great. I wouldn't have believed how much more business they generate. Everything's moving to the Internet today, and a writer really needs a screen presence.

I have accounts on all those social networking sites but never use them.

I have a MySpace account but don't use it to generate business dealings.
For me, it's a social networking system I use for global communications.
Some of my contacts on my MySpace account do use it for business purposes. I think that most of them have had positive results. However, I can't specify whether this increases or decreases the generation of monetary profits or losses.

Please ignore me. I'm determined to conquer this son of a bee, and this is the best place to do it -- way back on a boonie page.
So?
I wish I knew what I'm doing wrong. :-(
