Anyone See Dark Knight? (No Spoilers)

Took my older kids to see it today and had a ball. Gotta say, I figured the Heath Ledger Oscar talk was just Hollywood praising a tragic loss. Boy was I wrong. Absolutely brilliant.

:(

Anyone seen "Two Hands"? Ledger's first and IMO, best. I'm off to see Batman soon.

NO SPOILERS EVERYONE!

Would that thing be enjoyed by somebody who has offered to treat her sister to the energetic likes of "Mamma Mia!"? Somehow I doubt it.

But then I'm not so eager to watch Meryl Streep make a silly fool of herself either. :-(

Is this a movie? Us in the UK are always the last to see.

Hey, Kittykins, Mamma Mia is a blast from the past! ;-D

As soon as I'm feeling up to it, I'm taking the kids to see Journey to the Center of the Earth...action and adventure are sources of energy, eh?

lol

Yeah, who r u kidding, Keith. Your just a big kid yourself. And, so am I. :)

I think that Journey to the Center of the Earth was something I recall watching when I was a kid. Of course, back then, it would have been in black & white, or probably on a Saturday Monster Movie Matinee.

Dark Knight has no story. Or maybe it suffers from too many story lines. Confusing, unexciting, and way too long.

That was awesome. They really pulled out all the stops. I just don't know where they go from here. Tomorrow I'm going to see it in IMAX (I hope) so maybe it'll be even better on the big, BIG screen.

In my opinion The Dark Knight was basically Dirty Harry recast with capes, cowls and greasepaint.

Heath Ledger's portrayal of The Joker was much closer to that of the psycho-killer Scorpio in the original Dirty Harry.

Although I appreciated what Nolan tried to do with the Batman property, re-presenting classic comic book concepts (how's that alliteration?) as a gritty noir crime melodrama didn't quite work...my suspension of disbelief began to falter at about the halfway point, especially when Two-Face got involved in an already top-heavy plot.

The comics have taken this approach numerous times over the last 30 years, with varying degrees of success.

But the grand opera "Sturm und Batarangs" atmosphere that works in comics came off as over-the-top in The Dark Knight.

Having said that, the visuals are great and the acting is top-notch.

I especially enjoyed Gary Oldman's understated reprise of Lieutenant--and by movie's end, Commissioner-- Gordon.

I agree with you guys that while it was one of the best films I've seen, it was very complex. Not only would I like to see the film because of the visuals and acting, but also to try to capture some of the stuff that went way over the head. After a while, I believe I was so trying to make sure I understood everything that I [kinda-sorta] missed out on the surface enjoyment.

That being said, the hype was/is not overstated.

I mean, "re-see" the film....
