I have just been insulted. I was told to grow up by someone who could not paint a stick man.
To grow up!
Me? Who has written novels and painted pictures for years?
She is one of those people who believes she knows everything, but has done nothing in her own life to prove it.
It all ended when she seen a picture I done of a dog.
I rest my case.
My regards to all
Lewis.

There's always the possibility - and I'm just spitballin here - but there is the off-chance that it indeed sucked.
But probably not.

What happened?
I have done a picture of a Collie dog in 6b pencil. It is good; even though I say so myself. I was shown a picture (a good picture) of a Collie dog done by another artist. I done a critique on it ( a good one) only to find this lady attacking me verbally.
I know what is going down. A friend of mine for 37 years turned into an alcoholic. I helped him through a bad period only to find him afterwards bringing my name down in social circles. Why? I don’t know. I just know he is good to my face but not behind it...hence her attitude problem towards me. However, things will change. I will be having words with him.
She believed I didn’t know art. The fact is I have been painting for years. She is in for another shock. I will be handing some of my pictures into her local today. I can’t wait to see her face. Let’s just simply say ‘a message will be delivered.’
I can’t wait.
People? I wonder. You try your best for them and then you get this. However, my flag is high and I have a very sneaky grin on my face. The enemy is knocking at the door, if only they knew I was standing behind them with guns ready to blaze.
I shall win I tell you! I shall!
My regards to all.
Lewis.

Hi Lewis,
Do you know the book "The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz? One of the agreements is:
"Don't take anything personally. Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering.
There's a much longer explanation of each of the agreements in the book, which I highly recommend!

I don't let people like that get under my skin.
Insofar as the "bless your heart" scenario, a poster here used it in a thread, and by no means is my daughter an "idiot."

This is Smoko.
It is where you let your hair hang down. Chit chat, ect. You are talking as if I need professional help.
The fact is, I actually think the whole thing is funny. In reality I will most probably use the occurrence in my future writing.
Always remember, this is Smoko. We all need professional help. We are writers for god sake.
What do you expect.
I jest only.
Wait a minute, the twitch under my left eye has started up again. Oops, the aliens have landed. Is that a pink Elephant I see before my eyes? Nope, just another doctor.
I jest again as I dance naked around the neighbours gardens.
To be honest Roque I don’t see it as an issue. It’s more funny than anything else.

Lewis,
You certainly sound like an artist. Isn't emotional turmoil a blessing for an artist? Next time someone insults you, just say "Bless your heart."
Actually, I have questions for you. My son, who I should probably stop yacking about in these forums, is an artist. He's only thirteen. He can glance at something one time and days later, complete a perfect sketch. Any advice for a young artist? His art teachers tell him that they cannot teach him anything. They claim he is a better artist. But I know there is always room for improvement. He wants a career in art.

So "Bless your heart" is some kind of voodoo curse you're using against them so their heart will explode or something?

Surely we are responsible for our own reality -- we attract it to us. As some people around here would say, it is our karma.
The alternative is not to take responsibility for our own actions.

I'm beginning to think, based on these posts, that unless you grew up in the south using the phrase "Bless your heart" it is impossible to understand its meaning.
It's a nice way of saying, "She's an idiot."
Not usually. Most times, it is used as expression of support. Or, "I’m so sorry you going through this", or "You really went above and beyond. Thank you."
It is a phrase nuanced in meaning. Context is everything. And it is as much a part of southern vernacular as “y'all” and "fixin' to".

Lewis, sounds like you've got some sensitive Pisces/Cancer/Scorpio planets in your chart. Gotta get yourself a tougher hide, boy.
Imagine the White Light Protection swirling around you when you get up in the morning. Say, I am protected in the Light. No negative energies can enter my aura. I'm divinely guided in all that I do and say. By doing this every day, you'll actually build an invisible shield; garbage like this won't bother you so much.

Sail Away,
Don't forget "Ain't ya'?"
The first time I heard the phrase, "Y'all have a good day now. Ya' hear?" I was alone in a grocery store. I asked the clerk how many people did she see when she looked at me. She said, "Bless your heart."

"Bless your heart" can also be used in a flattering and sympathetic context.
A young man who ran in a track event came in third place. Following the end of the races, the coaches told him that he had performed well, adding, "bless your heart." [indicating that even though he came in third place, he tried his best]

Stacy Copping.
If your son can do that then I will state the obvious...he is a natural in detail. However, saying that, it will only make him a very good portrait artist. He needs to think more abstract. To obtain the detail and then utilise it to create a picture different from what he had originally seen (an interpretation if you like) then you have an artist.
Saying that though, to have that talent at the age of thirteen says to me...wow. What I mean is stick him into art college as fast as you can. This guy has got something.
A friend of mine’s daughter was the same at the sprightly old age of ten. I gave them a visit. Her father told her I was an artist. She ran up the stairs and brought some of her stuff down. I was amazed at her talent. She now teaches art and has stuff on show (admittedly I have not seen her latest).
There are those with natural talent that should not be ignored. Your son sounds like that. Again I say...art college.
I wish you and your son the best.

In Scotland we use the word ‘pal.’ It has different meanings depending on how it is used. If a friend comes up to you and says “How are you doing pal,” that is good; if a stranger does that...beware.

OMG, and here I've been saying "bless your heart" to various people and actually meaning it! Who knew?
"Bless his/her heart" is only a veiled (or not so veiled) insult when it follows an insult.
As in: "He hasn't got a lick of common sense. Bless his heart!"
It makes the insult socially acceptable, and offered -- more or less -- without malice. (If any of you have ever heard the standup comedy of Henry Cho, he has it nailed.)
But saying, "Bless your heart!" is also a genuine phrase of sympathy.
As somebody else said, context is everything.
I speak as a Southerner, born and bred.

As a young Mississippi man on a business trip to Ohio several years ago, I responded to an older gentleman's question with "yes, sir" (more like "yessir"). His eyes suddenly widened, he smilled and said: "By God I ain't heard that in years, son." He was a long-displaced southerner and I think it made his day.
My aunt used to use the phrase "bless his/her heart" as a sympathetic expression. Yes, context is everything. The other night my daughter said something really stupid and I just looked at my wife, shook my head and said: "Bless her little heart". In that context it meant, that was dumb but she can't help it.

CeCe said, But saying, "Bless your heart!" is also a genuine phrase of sympathy.
Right, and it can also be said because one is grateful to a person. If this is directed to them rather than said about them, it would indeed seem to make a difference.
In my case, I've said "Bless your heart!" to total strangers who went out of their way to be helpful in some way. (And then later I think, "Did I really say that?") This seems to be the first thing that pops out of my mouth, for some corny reason. :-)
On the other hand, just today I heard myself muttering, "Poor thing, bless his heart." Yeah, and I 'spose that would come under the sympathy label. (Or disgust?)
Whatever...seems to be an awful lot of blessing going on. That's a good thing, though, yes?
