I've only been here for a few weeks and I posted my first critique of someone else's work a day or so ago. It was more difficult than I had imagined but the real surprise was how much it helped me look at my own work.
My critique skills suck, mind you, and I realize that. I aim to improve with practice. There's something about the process, though, that opens my eyes to my own flaws.
Is this true for the ones of you who always have such good suggestions?

Absolutely, Carl :)
That's why sometimes it's almost best to run through other's postings and praise/critique those and pull everything you can from them (including what others mention in their responses). Even if you don't consciously do it, it's seeping into your subconscious. Kinda creepy (sounds like brainwashing! :), but....)

Off the subject (sorry 'bout that), but has anybody noticed how often "absolutely" is used these days? Especially in those TV interviews.
Absolutely!

I like to lurk over in writing craft before I do any editing - if I can guess what the pros are gonna say, then I'm ready to dig into my own writing.
