Did a search and didn't come up with any previous posts...

I recently joined a new writer's group and they are hot on Scribd. I checked it out the other day and cannot understand what the draw is. Perhaps I'm missing something. I see that some work is offered for sale, but nowhere on the site could I find a page describing how writers can profit. The members of my group seemed really enthused about how many people are reading their work. Is it strictly a feedback site?

I wouldn't consider selling my work in this way; I'm simply trying to understand what the draw is. I also found a forum with ample criticism of the site (posting work without author permission, etc.)

Just wondering if anyone has any firsthand experience or can explain it to me.

Lisa, you aren't missing anything. The web is full of sites where you can post your work free, with their accompanying not-real-critical-thinkers believing those sites are valuable. But then, I measure success in money, not eyeballs. YMMV.

I don't believe there's such a thing as frugal, *effective* marketing. Not as the meat and potatoes of a marketing plan, that is.
