I ran across this agent listing and their opinions about writing for children. I believe this to be the most inclusive, comprehensive information in one site that I have read on the net. Their web site address is http://www.wylie-merrick.com. I suggest that all beginning writers and even those who have read all the how-to books take a look at this information in its entirety.

I appreciate your post and I like their web site. I only wish they revealed their actual names somewhere.

Bob, the agents' names are S.A. Martin and Robert Brown. I don't know where I found that info--I haven't learned to use virtual bread crumbs when sleuthing on the net, but the first letters of the names are in their e-mail addresses. P&E has nothing negative about them.

All of their listed "available properties" are by first time authors. Although most agents do rep some first time authors -- they don't rep ONLY first time authors. The fact that they solicit editor attention through a website is definitely odd.
P&E may not have heard of them yet, but there are many children's agents with whom one would be better served.
For websites of recognized agents:
http://www.dunhamlit.com/index.htm
http://www.litwest.com/
http://www.pemabrowneltd.com/
http://ethanellenberg.com/
Also, joining the SCBWI will get you a list of children's book agents, as will buying the yearly Children's Writers & Illustrator's Market. Both methods will also allow you to find out how the agents want contact, what % of new writers they rep, and other important information. A lot of agents don't have a web presence. Some of the ones who do are HUGE bad deals -- if you are using the net to search for agents...tread very very cautiously.
