HELP!

Author: Jessica Williams

A friend of mine would like to do a collaborative project with me. He wants us to do a comic, where I write it and he does the illustrations. Now his idea left alot of holes to be filled and I dont know where to start with it. Any ideas on how to bring these up to him without offending him?

If you are at the point of offending a collaborator by suggesting concepts/material is missing, the collaboration isn't going to go anywhere. I suggest either telling him straight out where you think illustrations are missing to complement the storyline you're writing--and then openly negotiating from there, because he might have some relevant comments to make about your work as well--or back out of the project.

Yes. There would have to be plenty of back & forth to work together and if either one of you is uncomfortable with that, it's going to be difficult to make meaningful progress.

On the other hand, he seems to understand he needs your input. Tell him you're the writer and to shut up and draw.

Collaborations only work when the two collaborators know they can uneqivocally be up front, open and honest with each other. No point in being anything but those things. If he can't deal, it's not gonna work anyway, so give it a shot.
