Short Story Contest

Author: Huned Contractor

SHORT STORY CONTEST:

For all aspiring writers out there who have been bubbling with stories that need to be told to the world, here's a grand opportunity to get published.

Mirage Books has organised a short story contest with a difference. If you think you have it in you to be bold, meaningful and different, then go for it. Most importantly, 'break the rules' in your own way. Let ideas take wings. Bring out something exciting, path-breaking and nerve-wrecking. Show us how you can prove the dictum that rules are always made to be broken and your story will get published in our upcoming title, which is named – you should have guessed it by now - Break The Rules.

All you have to do is send your story with a word length of about 1,000-1,500 words through email. Each published story will be accompanied with the writer's short bio and photograph.

And, you may well ask, what's the purpose behind this project? As a new-age publishing house that is going to introduce some dramatic changes in the world of books, we believe that there has to be a platform for budding writers so that their ideas and expressions can reach out far and wide. Most reputed and established publishing houses have no time to spare for budding and amateur writers. All that they want to do is to capitalise on recognised names that guarantee sales.

Anyway, so what are you waiting for? Just hit the keyboard and send us your story in English. The contest closes on October 15, 2008.

For any further enquiries or clarifications, shoot an email to miragebooks@gmail.com. For submitting stories use the email: submitmanuscript@gmail.com.

Sorry. Any hope you had of convincing me to tell anyone about your "contest" was killed with this line. It's patently false, which any budding writer can find out in five minutes on Google.

My suggestion to WN lurkers is to ignore.

I think I'll send it in German instead.... Heheh:

Meine Geschichte fängt an und beendet. Das Ende. Ja? Ich wundere mich, wie gut sie dieses schätzen würden? Sprechen Sie Deutsches!!

Where's that email... woah. The hospital staff just came out of the door pushing a giant trolley/stretcher thingy with NEEDLES AND TUBES! ME? O.o

Ok you win. Now will you shhhhhh. Stop biting and start writing.........All the best.

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: Busy Lizzy

HC, pardon my mistrust, but on your web-site it says:

"This is our forte: We have experienced editors on our team. The costs for editing jobs can only be calculated after judging the nature of work. For that one has to get in touch with us, along with a few samples of your work."

Now, how can you prove to me that this contest isn't just a ploy to ensnare would-be writers into buying your editing services?
As far as I'm informed, serious agents or publishers don't charge any fees for editing.

Just being curious,
Busy Lizzy

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: Frank Baron

Trust your instincts Busy. This one has a bad smell to it.

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: A.L. Sirois

And speaking of website, HC... where the devil is it? Why are you using a gmail box rather than editor@miragebooks or something of the sort? Google does not reveal your company. In fact, all it does is show your post here on writers.net.

This doesn't inspire trust or confidence. Huned Contractor... H1D COntractor... an ISP in India... (242.34.2.static-chennai.vsnl.net.in)...

I call scam.

Re: Short Story Contest

Thanks Cathi C ... This is my first day here and I was a bit confused .. thanks for clearing things up for me=)

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: Huned Contractor

The writers who are doubtful about the fate of their 1500 words story can wait till the book is released in november and maybe join in for the next project. Its impossible to explain ones intentions. All I can say is - for the ones who are ready to send in your stories: Take a 1500 words risk.

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: Nan Hammond

mmmmm 1500 of the same two words come to mind...

...but that would be repetition...

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: Huned Contractor

Good! At least two words came to your mind - the rest may follow.....

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: A.L. Sirois

Oh, and we should just.... trust you! "It is impossible to explain one's intentions." Crap. It is certainly not impossible, my friend. Take all that energy you used to type out that paragraph of Hindi up there and use it to do so.

Oh, and those two words Nan is thinking of? The first one starts with F and ends with UCK, and it isn't "firetruck."

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: Huned Contractor

Ok, then copyright those two innovative words, which are ofcourse not firetruck, and keep shove them safely inside your a.. and then maybe your friend Nan can help you push it deeper with his d...

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: Frank Baron

Inspires confidence with every post eh?

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: Huned Contractor

Quite a number of imaginative writers have replied here. Good! At least they are busy doing what they should be -writing. Oh yes very inspiring indeed.

Doesnt inspire confidence - dont reply....????

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: A.L. Sirois

Listen, just move on, will you? Obviously you're not gonna get any business here, and each time you post you just prove -- again -- how much of a jackoff you are. Ganesha ought to take a nice big dump on you.

Re: Short Story Contest

"Ok, then copyright those two innovative words, which are ofcourse not firetruck, and keep shove them safely inside your a.. and then maybe your friend Nan can help you push it deeper with his d..."

And this is the nitwit we're supposed to send our work to? Not only dishonest and rude, but a bad writer!! Yeah, you're really a rule breaker.

Pul-eeze.

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: Huned Contractor

AL - Listen, you move on along with your precious stories, move on to another self-publisher. Business - Do you A.L. think you can get someone business????? Go for a full time job, if you get one.

Leslee the nitwit: Pul-eeze....Im not dishonest. And you are welcome not to send your gems to me.

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: leslee

And you are welcome to fail. Which, with your attitude and lack of perception, you undoubtedly will.

"Anyway, so what are you waiting for?"

Re: Short Story Contest

"And, you may well ask, what's the purpose behind this project? How are you going to change the world of books? Why? That comment alone makes the warning lights run amuck. How many vanity presses out there make the exact same comments?

Reputed and established publishing houses have plenty of time to spare for budding and amateur new writers..especially the good ones.

So tell us then Huned...what kind of royalties are the authors looking at over this publication?

Will the books be carried in book stores? What kind of rights will they have? How much are you charging for editing? As someone mentioned it should be free.

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: Huned Contractor

"Anyway, so what are you waiting for?"

Not for you Leslee....so buzz off with your stories. You and some of your other ever suspicious friends indulging in doubting every one who posts here, can save your stories for a future date - 2050 AD.

FOR WRITERS: THE CONTEST IS GENUINE AND FOR MORE INFORMATION WRITE TO MIRAGE BOOKS - IF YOU WISH TO. OTHERWISE DONT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE.

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: Sarah Connor

I'm a writer and I just asked you some questions. Why won't you answer them?

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: Sarah Connor

Why are there so many spelling and grammatical errors on your website?

Why are some of the titles (books you claim to be yours) published by another company?

Why do you take a 15% agency fee when you're a publisher? What other fees do you take?

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: A.L. Sirois

Sarah -- don't get your knickers in a twist. He can't and won't answer your questions. Scam artists are like that.

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: Huned Contractor

Ah there you are...Good-old-jobless-negative AL couldnt resist a chance.
Sarah, send me an email please. Copy the same questions there.

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: A.L. Sirois

"Jobless." Heh. You didn't bother to read my profile, I see.

And why won't you answer the questions in public? It's a public contest, isn't it? Oh, I see -- it's a public contest for people who take you at your word, not for those of us who have had enough experience to know bullsh!t when we see it.

Sarah, please post this guy's answers here, would you?

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: Joe Zeff

I see that you claim your company's "new age." How Second Millennium! Can't you come up with anything appropriate for the 21st Century? Remember, boys and girls, "new age" rhymes with "seu-age."

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: Sarah Connor

I'm not going to email him. If he can't answer them here then he obviously can't in email either. Those are all good questions that a publisher should happily answer without a second thought.

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: Sarah Connor

And for the record...I love having naughty...I mean knotty knickers.

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: A.L. Sirois

Hoo ha!

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: Huned Contractor

Ah Al again.
So it came to a point where you have to prove yourself by asking people to read your profile.
Get busy Al....start writing.

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: A.L. Sirois

Just answer the questions. Don't you understand you are making yourself look like a complete moron? I'm not the one with the credibility problem around here -- you are.

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: Huned Contractor

A.L.Sirois: Hey relax man. You wanted me to read your profile and I read it today. If all that you wrote there is true, then I'd say you are too creative and multi-talented to be arguing here on my post - someone you think is a fake publisher. It’s unfortunate. Anyway, please move on now, don’t waste your time and creativity finding faults and arguing. Hunting for fake publishers is not a great hobby, I suppose. I wish you achieve a lot more 'creative' success than you already have. All the best.

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: A.L. Sirois

For once you're right -- this is indeed a waste of my time, as you are obviously not going to answer any questions put to you.

Sarah posed cogent ones in her post dated 08-29-08 22:03, and 08-30-08 08:23. You have, to date, answered none, have instead tried to divert attention by sparring with me. I've had enough of this silliness and am, as you suggest, moving on. Again I say, Ganesha knows what is happening here and I'll take my cues from him, not you.

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: Sarah Connor

I'd say that exposing scam publishers and agencies is a wonderful thing.

For those of us who have been successful with our writing...we are able to give back to the community to make sure others are successful.

Not everyone can work on writing books 24/7. It's nice to take a breath and see what others are doing. Telling someone that they're spending too much time on line is a poor attempt at insults.

There is no such thing as wasting time if it involves keeping a newbie from signing on with a vanity press.

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: Frank Baron

Don't feed the troll folks.

It's always hungry for attention.

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: Nan Hammond

"Ok, then copyright those two innovative words, which are ofcourse not firetruck, and keep shove them safely inside your a.. and then maybe your friend Nan can help you push it deeper with his d..."

um...excuse me? For your information I have no such d... , I am not a him, and I recommend dear friend that you take a flying leap off the edge of your nearest abyss and stop wasting your time. Yes, YOUR time. You are nothing more here than SPAM and the current pissing match entertainment. I take great pleasure in informing you that the more you type here the less business you will actually get.

Any sympathy you had here was lost when you wrote that...and kept digging.

Now run along little boy and let the grown ups talk.

Re: Short Story Contest

Author: Huned Contractor

I want you to write: But you insist on talking - grown-up-Nan. And you took too damn long to come back: I want you to stay involved here.

Yes, YOUR time. You are nothing more here than SPAM and the current pissing match entertainment. I take great pleasure in informing you that the more you type here the less business you will actually get.

Good. Keep going.

Re: Short Story Contest

Re: Short Story Contest

And they were good questions.

Re: Short Story Contest

Which is why he wouldn't answer them. He sure did hang in there longer than most of these chowderheads, though, didn't he?
