Copyright?

It's me again. Hi :)

So now I'm wondering what of the copyright?
Should I copyright my work before I send it out?
And how do you go about getting a copyright?

Again, thanks in advance for any info.

Your work is automatically copyrighted as you create it. It is not necessary to file a formal copyright with the Library of Congress before submitting it to agents and editors (your publisher will do that for you when the time comes); in fact, to do it at this point in the process is--to some people--a sign of an amateur.

Legitimate agents make their money by selling your manuscript to a publisher, not by stealing it. Scam agents make their money by collecting it from you in the form of reading fees, etc.; they won't steal your manuscript because they wouldn't know what to do with it in the first place.

If you want to read up more about the copyright process and your rights, the U.S. Copyright Office has a TERRIFIC Help section that answers a lot of common questions. Here's a link. Wander and around and learn everything you need to know, right from the source. :)
