Questions on the Query |

Hi there. I'm about as noob as is gets when it comes to the writing gig. I'm making excellent progress on my second attempt at novel writing and it's very promising at this point.
First, I'd thank to thank all of your for everything I've already learned from this site. I didn't realize just how ignorant I was until I was confronted by knowledge.
However, I still have some questions. I realize I'm jumping ahead of myself here, considering I don't have any finished work, but I need to satisfy my curiosity.
So just what goes in a query?
I've written a small summary of the story I'm writing, much like you would find on the inside jacket of a book. Is this what they're looking for?
How long should a query be?
It is much like a cover letter?
An entire page or a few paragraphs?
I would appreciate anything you've got to share.
Thank you in advance!

I know exactly how you feel. The "Query" process in almost overwhelming.
I found that a lot of the literary agent's have blogs with good information because it's coming straight from the source. People like Nathan Bransford, Janet Reid, Miss. Snark - they all have links to each others blogs so it's pretty easy to read through all of them. Just do a search like Janet Reid Literary Blog and it will come up. Good luck and I hope it helps.
I have learned a LOT and I wish I had read more before I sent off my first few Queries.

A bookstore will have some good sources as well and there are several on web. Jayce gave you the best website, I think.
Good luck,
d.
