Has anyone ever posted a chapter on these boards for feedback? I'd like to get some feedback on the first chapter but I don't know if I should post it. Is it safe to post up here? Not that I don't trust people on these boards but putting it on the internet scares me.

Don't post an entire chapter. Post a page. And if you think your page is going to be stollen, don't post it at all.
No, it isn't safe. Nothing posted on the internet is "safe."

You'll be okay, Rich.
Now, if the idea of the story is in that first chapter (I mean, an idea so unique that you want to keep it secret until you shop it out), then I'd suggest not posting it. But, yeah, I think what leslee said about posting a page (even a scene) is enough. Depending, of course, on what sorta feedback you're looking for.
If you're looking for general feedback on your grammar skills, then we don't need an entire page to give you something. If you're looking for character development, then a page isn't enough (and you'll have to get a Reader(s) on the outside who could read for you). If it's flow-ability, then a page could give us enough to be able to give you something to work with. It's some talented folks on these boards, so whatever you post (as long as folks believe you're serious), you'll always get something to take back to the writing board.
And WELCOME!

lessons learned, make sure it's in writers craft, and these are writers here, we're all the harshest i think because when we look at other writers we tend to incorporate our own style. There are many talented people here, and many that aren't afraid to say what they want, so hold on tight to your head first... it may be cut. hehe,. there's a lot of good people here, and the experiance is valuable.
