Are Journals a good idea?

Author: Robert Churchill (195.229.8.---)

I have been keeping a journal of my experiences while deployed in Iraq. I am a soldier in the Army and I write in my journal a few times a week of the things I do and see. I have been thinking about trying to publish this in order to share what really happens to soldiers and how we\\\'re living over here...Any ideas on whether or not it would be a good idea to publish and how I would go about this. Thanks

Would you be allowed? I'm pretty sure the military keeps a pretty tight rein on soldiers discussing the details their service for a certain amount of time after discharge.

Hi, Robert.

Personally, I think it's a great idea. Coming first-hand from a soldier who's actually been there might help open some eyes.

Best of luck on this, but please make sure you don't get yourself into any trouble with the 'igher-ups' who might try to stifle you.

Take care :o)

Continue with your journal, but don't attempt to publish until you are discharged. And be aware that there most likely are lots of others with the same idea. It will be interesting to see what hits the fan when the stories start coming out.

Good luck to you.

Wouldn't it be nice if stories about all the good things our soldiers are doing over there would "hit the fan"? But of course the media isn't interested in any of that.

Who says the media isn't interested in the good things? There was a great story recently about a Marine who adopted an abandoned dog in Iraq and brought it home with him to San Diego.

I bet a well-written account of a soldier's experience there would be very saleable, either as a magazine article or a book.
