I wrote a book called A Glimpse Of Heaven, about the rise & fall of a rock star. It took me one year to write. My book remains unpublished. I'm looking for some advice.
Here is an example of the story line:
Nick Zane grew up poor & bored with small town life in Green Cove Springs, Fl. He was brutally bullied & picked on by his peers at Melendez High School because he was different. He later forms a rock n roll band called, Folded Faces, with 2 hometown friends. They eventually rise to the top of success, and to young Nick Zane, it seemed that his world was full of promise, but he soon grew uncomfortable when he could no longer walk down the street without getting hassled by the over zealous fans. At first, he had found freedom in his music. Now, Hal Jackson at Stone Mountain Records is calling the shots, & he controlls Nicks every move. Nick begins to feel like a puppet on a string as festuring resentment begins to eat away at him towards the music business. He turns to Heroine for comfort, & also to Macy Maguire from the all girl band, The Vampire Dolls. Nick spends time in & out of rehab, but never fully able to conquer the demons that haunt him. One more complication arises. Macy Maguire is expecting his child. Sensing that time is quickly running out, Macy would put up a desperate fight to save him,but can you save someone who doesn't want to be saved?
I welcome all critiques. Don't hold back. Be honest.

Karen, if you really want critiques I suggest you post a piece of the book. Maybe the first five pages or so, rather than an overview of the storyline.

Karen, that's my first name! Which has nothing to do with your question. I am not published yet, so I can't offer the professional advice you will recieve from the published writers in here, but I had to tell you, I just started a book yesterday that is so similiar, though the alcoholic rock star is female in this one. You might want to read it, it did hook me, and that's not my usual type of story line, but I had read some of the authors other work and knew he was a good writer. It's called a Fist Full of Rain, by Greg Rucka.
I will tell you that one of the reasons I got hooked was not so much the band and the demons the female character has, I am sure there are lots of stories written about this subject, but there's an extra twist, and it was was caught my interest most.

Karen......... IMO, You did a great job of composing a compelling short synopsis. I found it strange that as I read, I began wanting to see the novel in print. Not a rock band fan but you laid out the plot well enough my interest was piqued/peeked/peaked/piked. (inside joke around here) The story line sounds realistic. Best wishes for success in its completion and being agented.
