Procedure question

Author: d. Leroy (---.hfc.comcastbusiness.net)
Date:   07-29-08 11:39

Hi all,
Looking for opinions out there on how to proceed. An agent (the agent I wanted, I might add) has read my book and gave me great praise on it. In addition, she said she'd love to work with me on it. That's the good news.

She told me she'd call Monday (THE CALL, I hope) and we'd discuss the project and next steps.

Monday came and no call. My reaction was that people get busy and she'll most likely call later this week. But, of course, my insecurity surfaced and I'm debating a couple of options:

Just sit tight and wait - she'll call eventually. This doesn't mean she's abandoning the project.
Or
Shoot her a quick email stating that I am available the remainder of the week and can be contacted at any time, just to confirm the interest is still there. She's been great at answering emails and is super nice. My concern here is that I might be bugging her and that I might sound too desperate (which I am, naturally).

Any thoughts on this? Telling me to quit being a
whiny-bitch and relax is also an acceptable answer.

Thanks all,
d.

Family emergencies happen to agents, too. I would give it another day before shooting her an email.

One quick question.

How long did it take the agent to read your book?

Hi Stacey,
She initially requested the first 100 pages (via snail mail). I heard from her a week after she received it. She emailed me and asked for the rest.

Two weeks later she emailed me, said she really liked it, and wanted to work with me on it. We had a couple of email exchanges about the book and then she said she wanted to talk on the phone.

That's where I'm at, awaiting the phone conversation.

Sounds great. I'd feel free to check in with her, if I were you. She may have had a scheduling conflict.

Hey all, thanks for the advice. I shot her a quick email simply asking if she'd like to reschedule the call.
She responded immediately then called me about five minutes after that. Great conversation.

I now have an agent.

Much appreciation. I've recieved a lot of help from several members on this forum, much of the credit goes to them.

This is truly exciting. I know it's only one of many more steps, but it's a big one
Five years and four novels.

And Wonky, I promised you an update from a thread a while back on a pretty controversial issue. Enough said.

Thanks again,
d.
