Will there be a class on capitalizing the first word of a sentence?

no, but there will be one how not to post evil answers anonymously over the net.

please keep yourself away from things that are not your business. if you're not interested in sth, don't bother!

this is a place for sharing messages, not for grammar checking.
this was a message and not an article and you should mind your own business.

Actually, Bernadette, Keith has a valid point. This is a writers' forum. I try to put my best professional foot forward here because I never know who might be reading these posts. I may make the occasional typo, but I do take the time to proof and edit my posts at WN BEFORE I post.

To completely ignore some basic rules of grammar and punctuation in a place for writers (who use those things as their tools) is not a good way to make a first impression. Like it or not, your writing skills will be judged by your ability to spell and use correct grammar in a writing forum.

Just my thoughts...

Jeanne

Dear Jeanne Gassman!

Thank you for at least writing a good mannered answer. I appreciated that. If Keith was writing something similar, I might answered differently.

Though you might have a point in your opinion, I would like to draw your attention upon several things.

First of all, it is a Forum. A Forum has, generally low quality. Second: English is not my mother tongue. Three: My intention was to see how many people would be interested at all, to take part a community that takes pride in helping writers who might not have proper qualifications or know little about the business of writing. Me myself, not in any way would like to be seen as professional or someone who is an agent or editor, or copyrighter. But I do know the rules of writing. I do know grammar, and I do know how to capitalize. I take pride in what I write and I try to be as serious about it as it is possible.
My aim to join this site and to write to this Forum was not to show off my talent or spelling abilities but to seek opportunities to get the point of view of other writers, agents, publishers, and to see if they would be willing to share their expertise. My aim is to find answers to the questions of young writers about how the business works.
They can learn the grammar on their own. This is not my duty.
Furthermore, capitalizing n a Forum is not a grammar question. Also there are languages where you do not capitalize at all. Also there are places on Earth where it is totally accepted to not capitalize on social and community sites. My country is one of them.

The problem with Keith post was not that he mentioned something that bothered him, rather the way he did it.

Guess I'm confused. Erikka, are you and Bernadette the same person?

Also: This thread sounds to me like it should be in Writing Craft, rather than Literary Agents. Just my opinion, of course.

I'm not sure what to think about your statement, "A Forum has, generally low quality."

Oh dear everyone, I have just realized I made some typos. Upps.. am I considered to be a bad bad writer now? I really regret I thought it is a place for ask for sharing expertise. I realize it isn't. Sorry to bother you with a silly little thought that it is an open Forum.
Please do not answer anymore. My grammar and spelling are all right, thank you...
I'm sorry that you all totally missed the point of my message, but at least I realized how hard it will be to make the people in the business really care about the questions that are matters. Like sharing expertize instead of making unnecessary remarks.
So just ignore it ok?

If the responses are bothering you, quit reading them. It isn't up to you whether or not people respond.

OH My GOD!

It is a FORUM!

You are agents, and I just wanted to know if people of the business would be willing to share their expertize with aspiring writers and I posted an AD--- an advertisement if you want to call it like that.
This is what internet is for. TO Network. To research. etc.

//low quality: do you put smiley and silly faces in your writings? Into business letters? Think about it.../

Please all of you ignore this thread because that conversation is totally useless. I will not answer any more posts.
This is me but I canceled my registration. I'm looking for places that can help fellow writers and to network, but this place seems quite hostile and not what I'm looking for.Sorry.

I'm glad she thinks agents are hanging out here, just waiting for writers to come along.

Wish it were true.

I feel like Kevin Costner in Silverado. Every time his brother asks about a big gunfight/brouhaha, Costner's Jake says,"All I done was kissed a girl."

Uncapitalized, badly punctuated, rude, pseudonymed, presumptuous, AND ill-informed! The bar has been raised...or lowered, as the case may be.

As Wonky said, "only agents post here."

To that I will add, "agents who occasionally use silly/smiley faces."

I just joined this site. It's the first time I've ever joined any online sites, groups, etc. I am trying to start a writing career and I'm a bit tenative about the whole process because life has been kicking me around a bit the last few years and my confidence is a little low.
This string of posts was definitely an interesting introduction to the site. I have numerous general questions that I'll soon be inundating you all with. Can't wait to see the reception.
