Critiques

What are they? Why do them? How much for a critique that will suffice? How much for a critique by a "superstar"?

Looking for a publisher. What a friggin chore! I have a job already. Granted I don't like it but it beats hell out of being told I am "useless" in two unrelated jobs, twice a day, and with one of the jobs I'm not even being paid!

Please tell me you're not an agent.

Didn't you just post a comment that you've received a contract for your ms? Stop whining.

Fabian,

Did you check this agent out with Preditors & Editors?

http://www.anotherealm.com/prededitors/

You mentioned in another thread that you had an agent and that they wanted 10%. Sorry, but I have red flags going up, especially since it sounded like you were accepted immediately. The standard commission these days, btw, is 15% on domestic sales and 20% on foreign sales.

Did this agent suggest you need a professional critique? Did he offer to refer you to an editor for critique? There is a well known scam agency that uses this model to hook in newbies. Robert Fletcher runs this outfit, and it poses under a number of different aliases, including:

Christian Literary Agency
Writers Literary Agency
WL Agency
Children's Literary Agency
and about ten others that I can't remember at the moment.

Please, please check out this agency at either Preditors & Editors or at Writer Beware.

Ann Crispen (a mod at Writer Beware) may show up here later to post the list of the 20 worst agents. Let's hope your agent is not on that list!

Jeanne

I'll do them for $100. Of course, you may want to remember the old adage: "You get what you pay for."

Am I the only one that thinks this is just weird?

The truth is out there ...

BTW, I think they waited too long on the new X-files movie.

No real agent or publisher will ever ask you to pay a single cent to anyone.

An author ONLY ever receives money based on advance or sales royalties, never to fork out money before publication!
