Ad Revenue

Hi guys,

Based, inter alia, on the advice of this forum I've decided to go ahead and start up a website with a daily updated small article and a weekly or bi-weekly long article. I'll share in ad revenue, and the site will promote an already-published book of mine.

Does anyone have experience with ad revenue? Does it really make money?

Your question's unclear.

Do you mean you're trying to generate enough traffic to sell ad space? Are you doing a blog?

I can tell you I have been blogging a serialized novella and running Google ads on it for two months now and I have made just about 25 cents. So if you want to go that route (Google AdSense) you would clearly need a heck of a lot more traffic (I'm at about 5-10 hits a day) and many more people clicking on the ads for you to make anything.

I doubt it will make you any money at all - especially if you are sharing the revenue with someone else. Sorry.

You need to be a high-traffic 'authority' site for it to work, with many thousands of unique visitors every day - I doubt the Ads you see invading every page of Writers.net make them much money -- I'd bet the Amazon Kindle skyscraper Ad is worth more than all of the other AdSense Ads put together.

The Ads also make the site look cluttered and a bit 'cheap' -- the one at the bottom of the page as I write this is telling me I could earn £14,577 a week working from home with an online business. Mmmm really....

Ads? On writers.net? What ads? I don't see them. Of course, I am using FireFox with the adblock extension, so I've probably got those domains blacklisted. I bet it 5uX using Internet Explorer here, what with having to put up with all the ads and not having a built-in spelling checker...

thanks for the input guys. I don't know if I can extrapolate from Matt's figures, but if so, there's at least a little hope. I don't know about this. I feel like Ralph Bighead in Wacky Delly.
