Happy Holidays ...

Was wondering if someone can recommend a talented Press Release writer to help me craft a release for my new book.

Thank you,

Hi Bill,
I don't know anyone who does this other than publicists, but if you are interested, I could email an attachment of one I wrote for one of my books to give you an idea.
You can e-mail me at kluzwriter@aol.com
Regards, Kaz

Bill, I've written many press releases, I can probably help you out too. Email me if you like.

You're a writer, right? So write! :)

Have you tried writing your own? It's good practice - after all, you will be taking part in marketing this book (I hope), and by writing it yourself you'll have far more control.

From the queries I often see posted here, it seems many writers don't understand or embrace the notion that they need to not only *write* a cool book, but think about how to *sell* the darn thing once they've written it.

Remember, the people who write the marketing copy for your work are writers, too. So why not be your own marketing writer whenever possible?

Keith has a good point, Bill. Take a look at Kaz's samples and give it a shot. It's just basic reporting - Who, What, Where, When, Why & How, starting with the most important points first and going on in descending order. You'll want to hook your first paragraph on something timely and/or newsy (but if I remember correctly you've got you hook coming up in January). Format is important (double-space, contact information, etc.) but you could catch on. Email me and I can send you a sample, too.

Now, if you're looking for a press release writer to do more than write - say, pitch the story to editors and producers, that's another story. It's not that you can't do it yourself but the process is time-consuming.

Speaking as a former journalist (i.e. victim of 1000 bad press releases) please spell everything right, include a contact name and number for more information that WORKS, complete with a human being who answers the phone, and you're already on your way.

Good luck. :)

Again ... thank you all. The reason why I desire professional help with this is the fact that I do not want to mess it up.

Danielle: You are correct. This release will tie my book in with a potentially "hot" news story directly relating to my book (and yes, in Janaury). I am gathering my information as we speak and feel that I have one shot to craft the best release possible as to maximize my chances of getting writers, editors, etc. to bite on my news. I would not want to experiment writing my own release in this situation.

Best,
Bill

Danielle and Writers.net gang ...

I am thinking of writing a short story (10-12 pages) based on this "hot" information that I'm gathering and offering it for "free" on my website IF (and only if) you buy my book. Is this a good strategy to help boost sales of my book ???

OR

should I just offer it for free and hope that people will want to purchase and read my book as a "courtesy" ???

Thanks.

- Bill

P.S. By the way, the Press Release would link to the above strategy

You might want to look at booksandauthors.net. They have a reasonably well priced package. I signed on with them after the release of my first book, but it's too soon to measure the results since they just posted me to their site a few days ago, but I'm pleased with what I've seen so far.

Hello Brian,
