That strikes me as a credible and well-written disclaimer by Frey.

I'm also glad to see Random House taking some responsibility by sending out disclaimer sheets to bookstores that already have the books in stock.

Whether it's enough, I don't know. It will probably mollify some people, but I have mixed feelings about it.

I'm happy to see accountability arising out of this and I'm happy to see people being more honest and responsible about it. That's the good part, but ...

a part of me still knows that Frey jumped the queue. There are other good memoirs out there, more truthful memoirs on addiction and recovery, that probably deserved the bestselling slot that Frey got by lying. Oprah might have read and endorsed someone else's book on this topic, someone more deserving.

I guess with Frey's book selling so well and no sign of it being recalled, that that wrong will never be righted.

As with many things, the results are bitter-sweet.

So, that was it and that is that. Responsibility took a very short turn indeed. Ann

Yeah yeah Frey again. If everyone's financial stake rests with one writer then we're doomed. Frey is an anominally and not the publishing industry.

Frey might be an anomaly, but getting away with something unethical on a big scale always sends a strong message to others with the same intentions. Someone has to push back or we all end up on the other side of the hill.

There is that Mya. Ask the gents on trial for the Enron scandal. One would think first, yes lies are found out and the culprits caught.

"Someone has to push back or we all end up on the other side of the hill."

We're already a long ways down the other side of the hill, and this entire sorry saga is ample proof of that.
