Looking for Lori Perkins' address?Posted by Mike
I recently e-queried Lori Perkins and although she did request samples from my manuscript, she did tell me that she receives 30,000 requests a year for rep. and sends any unsolicitated material to be screened by someone else. She also let me know that it may be a while before she got back to me because she's swamped with submissions. It has been about two months now. Try 5800 Arlington Ave. Riverdale NY 10471 Good luck.
Lori is so swamped with fiction since January, she closed her email address. (I didn't check recently so perhaps her Yahoo address works now). She too expressed great interest in my query but has put me on hold until the end of July. With her email address closed, I guess I'll have to call or post-mail her come August. Pete
Dear all, Yes, Lori Perkins is my agent and she is good! Lori set up several appointments when she represented my nonfiction manuscript (contains mini biographies and a how-to combo), IT'S ALL IN THE CARDS, and dedicated an entire day to be with me when we met with NYC publishers. Lori also provided valuable insight when two publishers bid for my book. Thanks to her good advice, I went with Perigee Books and IT'S ALL IN THE CARDS is now in second printing having attained nice success nationally and internationally (voted number three in Lifestyle Choices in Singapore!). Perigee Books' art director designed a lovely cover and they worked closely with me during the editing stages. (In case you'd like to see it, its ISBN is: 0-399-52494-0 at either BN.com or Amazon.com.) Through collaborative efforts, Perigee's marketing agent and my Barnes and Nobles contacts, I had signings around the states east of the Mississippi. Yes, Lori Perkins is a successful agent swamped with inquiries and manuscripts, thus patience is requested to allow her time to respond. Regards, Chita
According to Writer's Digest Market, the 5800 Arlington is the current address. I sent her a query in Dec. 2002 and still haven't received a reply. She is swamped! She authored the book 'The Insider's Guide to Getting an Agent' and can be ordered through Writer's Digest book club or Amazon, probably other suppliers, as well. It is a book well worth reading.
I was reading in Lori\'s bio that she requires her writer\'s to write fiction and Non-Fiction. How mandatory (or ironclad) is this really with her? I have absolutely no interest in ANY non-fiction subject that I would care enough about to write. I know that from word of mouth and personal referrals that she is a WONDERFUL agent to work with but this non-fiction requirement will kill my chances with her in an instant. I have two direct referrals for my manuscript. Who insisted that I send it directly to her with their names attached to it.
Interesting, I received an email from Lori Perkins today, stating that she was definitely interested off my email query, but could I email her in another month, unless another agent expresses interest, then she'd try to read my manuscript right away. Sounds like she may have her hands full. I think I'll wait until I hear from a few more agents and the agent that Michael Steven Gregory is delivering my manuscript to.
