Dionne McLean

Editor type: copy

I am a recent college graduate dying to get into the book publishing industry with an empty portfolio and a heart bursting with passion for the written word. I love spending time figuring out what an author *means* to ensure that what is on the page is understood effortlessly by readers. I edited my peers' papers in college with great success, but I am looking for a bigger job to begin a sampling of my work I can show to potential employers. I've had difficulty working with people over the internet before, specifically in terms of pay, especially since I have little prior experience. Therefore, if you are looking for an editor to polish your book-length manuscript, I will work for a positive, well-written review that I can send to future employers. Yep - I WILL WORK FOR FREE. Here's the catch: Before I agree to work with you, please send me a short summary of your work (7 to 10 sentences) and the first chapter and/or your favorite chapter written. Send me any other information about your book you think necessary: genre, word count, specific issues you would like me to look for, etc. I will get back to you within 24 hours if your project looks doable. I am looking to work with passionate people - willing to take constructive criticism - with book-length manuscripts, preferably writing in fiction, although exceptions are welcome. I'm free because I don't have the experience, but I am passionate, ambitious and hard working - help me make your book the first step in my career! (last updated 10/2014)
