Established in 1996, The Knight Agency has sold more than four hundred books for its sixty-plus clients. Though it specializes in romance and women's fiction, the agency also represents literary fiction of the highest caliber, along with a diverse list of African American, religious, financial, self-help, and health nonfiction.
Currently our greatest areas of interest in fiction are romance, women’s fiction, commercial fiction, and literary and multicultural fiction. We are NOT interested in science fiction/fantasy (unless it is a romance), horror or occult, mysteries, thrillers, or action-adventure. Because we only look at novel-length fiction, please do not send any poetry, screenplays, or short fiction.
The best way for a fiction writer to get our attention is with a well-written, short query letter that provides a quick sketch of the book’s plot. Identification of the book’s genre is always helpful, as is any mention of the author’s affiliation with writers’ groups such as Romance Writers of America.
In nonfiction, our needs are more limited; however, we are considering works in the following areas on a highly selective basis: business and finance; self-help, how-to, and psychology; entertainment and media; health; and inspirational/religious. We are NOT interested in autobiography, occult, political rants or conspiracy theories, or books on “how to beat the system.” Query on other topics.
The best way for a nonfiction writer to get our attention is, again, with a strong but short query letter that offers a brief explanation of the book and its purpose, as well as the author’s relevant credentials.
DUE TO THE ENORMOUS VOLUME OF COMMUNICATION WE RECEIVE, WE CAN ONLY ACCEPT QUERIES BY E-MAIL. LETTERS AND PHONE CALLS WILL NOT BE ANSWERED.
Memberships: Association of Authors' Representatives (AAR) and Romance Writers of America (RWA).
